St. Andrew's was $250,000 in debt, the diocese had fired the bishop, the former dean had left in disgust after an abortive although helpful capital funds drive. The Cathedral had unauditable books. It also had its solution in renting the cathedral as a movie venue for Japanese tourists.

Under my direction the rental income amounted to as much as $700,000 a year. During my tenure we did over $1,000,000 in repairs, repaid all of the debt and had $250,000 in cash in the bank when I left.

Having done what I knew how to do and what was needed in the short-run, my interim was over in 4 1/2 years. The staff was in good repair, the relationship with the Diocesan staff was excellent, the stature of the cathedral amongst the diocesan clergy high. We did some very adventuresome liturgical work including the use of Indian umbrellas as canopies for the Gospel book. These were provided to the Cathedral by a physician whose original church was the Mar Toma Church of Southern India. I have now served four congregations with Mar Toma Christians in them. Good experience for an Interim!

Confronted with an ediface that had had no significant redecoration in 40 years I resolved to brighten it with locally inspired art and color. We completed the refurbishment of the Aeolian Skinner organ; all of the vestments were replaced along with most of the furnishings.. An intriguing design for an advent wreath was commissioned through some artists from Seattle.
